Scion of the illustrious Maharaj clan of the Banaras Gharana, Abhishek Maharaj carries forward a musical legacy spanning fifteen generations. Trained by his father, the legendary Sarod maestro Pandit Vikash Maharaj, he began as a vocalist before discovering his true calling in the sitar. A virtuoso in both Khayal Gayaki and Dhrupad Ang styles, his artistry blends tradition with innovation—earning accolades from luminaries like Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Kishan Maharaj.
From the WOMAD Festival to the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Abhishek's performances resonate across the globe. Decorated with six Gold Medals by India's Ministry of Culture, he now serves as director of the Banaras Music Academy, ensuring classical music remains accessible to all while championing social causes from education to human rights.
